Gabon

The landscape of Gabon can be divided into three parts. First, there is the narrow coastal plain. Second, the hilly interior and thirdly the savannas in the east and south. Furthermore, the majority consists of tropical rainforest. French is the official language in Gabon. Gabon is a relatively rich country due to logging, oil supplies and other raw materials. But only the small elite benefit from this. There are thirteen national parks. Where you can encounter beautiful flora, lowland gorillas, chimpanzees and forest elephants.

Gambia

Especially during the winter months Gambia is the destination to visit. The temperature is then delicious. The country has a number of beautiful nature parks. Ghana

The people of Ghana are friendly. You can admire beautiful festivals and traditional festivals. Furthermore, the country has a long coastline. However, part of it is dirty. But most beaches are paradise. Ghana also has a lot of flora and fauna. You will find rainforest, national parks with lots of waterfalls. Guinea

Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau is known for the Bijagó Islands. On these islands you will find two national parks. The parks include manatees, hippos and crocodiles. There are also almost one million migrating birds each year to these islands. This is really beautiful to see. Furthermore, Guinea-Bissau is a large producer of cashew nuts. These nuts grow on shrubs that you encounter everywhere. The inhabitants are often fine woodcarvers. That’s why you can buy beautiful carvings everywhere. Unfortunately, most people are poor.

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast has rugged beaches, beautiful untouched rainforests and also large cities. Furthermore, Ivory Coast has the largest church in the world. One of the most beautiful national parks is Tai National Park. In the first place you will find in this park one of the last remaining virgin rain forests of West Africa. Characteristic of these rain forests are the more than 50 meters high trees and small streams. But you can also encounter pygmy hippopotamus and chimpanzees here. The capital is Yamoussoukro. For example, in this city you will find a church where there is room for 18,000 people. There are also many skyscrapers.

Cape Verde

Cape Verde consists of islands lying south of the Canary Islands. With its subtropical climate it is a great destination for sun worshipers. Cape Verde is particularly attractive for mountaineers, hikers and divers. But even if you want to relax on one of the beautiful beaches, Cape Verde is an excellent destination. Especially in winter the temperature is wonderful. That is why it is a popular destination in the winter. Also due to the travel time of about 6 hours makes the Cape Verde Islands attractive.

Cameroon

In Cameroon you will find beautiful varied nature and a lot of biodiversity. Cameroon has 7 national parks where you can find caves, rain forests, rocks, waterfalls and many different animals. Examples of animals living in Cameroon are elephants, giraffes, lions, crocodiles, hippos and chimpanzees. Tourists go to Cameroon mainly because of Mount Cameroon. Liberia

Most famous are the rock formations at Blo Degbo. These rocks are located near Paynesville Monrovia and have the shape of a face. Furthermore, the Sapo National Park is a tourist attraction. Traveling outside the cities can be dangerous. But the Liberian rainforest is very worthwhile. You can encounter many different animals, such as leopards, elephants and anteaters. If you want to lie on the beach, then you have to go to Golden Beach, ELWA beach or Denkers beach. But for golf surfing you can best go to Robertsport. And you can spend the night in tents on the beach. Furthermore, the Waterside Market is of course worth mentioning.

Mali

Mali is located in the countries of Algeria, Niger and Mauritania. A country where the desert of the Sahara is getting bigger and bigger. There are also dry grass plains and savannas in the south. There is also a national park, namely Parc National du Mali. You can make beautiful walks. Especially worth visiting are the Bandiagara Cliffs. The hike through these cliffs is a must. You will find mud houses, among other things. And you can see the local people struggling. But especially the valley is impressive.

Mauritania

Endless undulating sand dunes characterize Mauritania. That’s because 90 percent of the country is in the Sahara. The population mainly consists of nomads. These include Arab Berbers and Negroid people. The national park of Mauritania is called Banc d’Arguin. Millions of migratory birds hibernate here. If you like crowded markets and French restaurants, then visit the capital Nouakchott. The population mainly depends on the Islamic faith. You better not come in the summer months. Because then it is incredibly hot. But the rest of the year it is good to live.

Niger

Niger has a lot of natural beauty. Furthermore, the country is also known for the traditional tribes. You mainly find desert. But also volcanic mountains. As in many countries in Africa you can encounter elephants, giraffes, lions and hippos among other things. The population lives especially in the valleys on the Niger River. Especially the Ténéré Desert is one of the most beautiful desert areas in the world. If you like 4×4 driving, the Air Mountains and the Teneré are recommended. So if you are traveling to Africa, Niger should not be missing.

Nigeria

Gashaka is the largest nature reserve in Nigeria. This area is the transition between the Sahel and the Sahara. The north is especially flat. But the south is very varied. You will find, among other things, deep valleys, cliffs and fast flowing rivers. On hikes you can meet Giant Pigs, Buffalo and African Gold Cats. Furthermore, there are more than 500 bird species.

Further south towards Cross River State is a large national park. Here you can encounter West African Gorillas. You can take a quiet boat trip on the Cross River. But otherwise you can also make a tough trip to the top of Mbe mountains or the Obudu plateau.

Nigeria has much more to offer. So, if you are going to travel to Africa, Nigeria should also have a place in your itinerary.

Senegal

A visit to Senegal is required when traveling to Africa. Senegal is primarily a winter sun destination for Dutch tourists. This is mainly due to the nice temperature and the good culture of the country. And it is only six hours flying from the Netherlands. Also tourists visit Senegal because of nature. Think of Djoudj National Park, Lago Rosa or Niokolo Koba National Park. These natural sights are different. That is why Senegal has a clearly individual character compared to other African countries. The most beautiful beaches can be found in Petite Côte. You can also visit the island of Gorée, the city of Saint-Louis or the holy city of Touba.

Sierra Leone

Many people are poor in Sierra Leone. No less than 70% of the population lives below the poverty line. Only a small elite benefits from diamond mining. Tourists come to Sierra Leone mainly to relax at the beaches. There are white sandy beaches. Furthermore you will find boulevards with many hotels, restaurants and nightlife. But also tropical forests, marshes, mountains and several game reserves can be found here. In these game reserves there are crocodiles, monkeys and many bird species.

Togo

Togo is a very popular country among tourists. And hear on your list if you want to travel to Africa. There are mostly pristine coasts, beautiful rain forests and vast savannas. The culture in Togo is very diverse. This is due to the almost 40 different ethnic groups that live there. You can also learn old voodoo rituals and traditional African medicine. You can also shop on the busy markets. Or go hiking in the beautiful forests. But there are also beautiful beaches in Togo, such as the beaches of Baguida and Avepozo. They seem to be the most beautiful beaches on the West African coast.

Burundi

Burundi is unfortunately known for the war between the Hutus and the Tutsis. There is therefore little tourism in Burundi. The tourists that come there are real adventurers. They come mainly for the mountains and the tropical rainforests. Burundi also has three national parks. Due to the high location of Burundi, the average temperature is only 20 degrees celsius. The most dry period is from June to August. In Burundi they speak French and Kirundi.

Djibouti

Djibouti is one of the warmest countries in the world. Most of the country is desert. Sporadically you come across a tribe. Tourism is at a low level here. That is why many people still live here in a traditional way. However, you can dive very well on the coast. The two best dive sites are Les Sept Frères and The Gulf of Tadjourah. Here you will find, among other things, the whale sharks. In comparison with the surrounding countries, it is safe. Many people from the surrounding countries flee to Djibouti. But due to the desert climate, almost no animals live in the wild. Agriculture is also virtually impossible in Djibouti. Frankly, I think it is not recommended for traveling to Africa.

Eritrea

Eritrea is not at all touristy. But it is a country that is worth a visit. You can relax on the Red Sea. There are beautiful mountains and there is desert. But there are also beautiful ruins. You can dive very well at the Dahli Islands. Furthermore, the monastery Debre Bizen is worth a visit. This monastery was founded in 1361. The capital of Eritrea is Asmara.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia has beautiful nature. That is why Ethiopia should not be missing in journeys to Africa. There are about fourteen national parks. In these parks you will find rare animals such as lions, hippos, elephants and leopards. But there are also waterfalls, volcanoes and mountains. Furthermore you will find salt lakes, hot springs and ravines. And of course there are deserts. In these deserts you can encounter nomadic people. Finally, there is also the beautiful city of Harar with its 99 mosques. In short, a very beautiful country to visit.

Kenya

Kenya has fantastic beaches on the Indian Ocean and dozens of beautiful nature parks. In the nature parks you can admire the Big Five. And the more active tourist comes to mind in Kenya. For example, Mount Kenya is a happy climbed mountain among mountaineers. Especially the mountain top Lenana is very popular. You can also make beautiful diving trips in Kenya or do other water sports. After these activities you can relax on one of the beautiful beaches.

But the interior of Kenya is also very beautiful. Traditional tribes still live here. That is why the interior is definitely worth a visit. Besides a beautiful landscape, flora and fauna, Kenya has a rich culture. For example, tourist villages have been built, such as Bomas or Kenya. This focuses on the tradition of the country and the indigenous peoples. Famous destinations include Mombasa, Malindi and Nairobi. Uganda

Seychelles

The Seychelles are beautiful islands. They are more than a hundred islands on the African east coast. And less than a third of them are uninhabited. You can dive very beautiful because of the colorful coral reefs and the whale sharks. Furthermore, you will encounter sea turtles and parrotfish. The nature park Vallée de Mai is also worth a visit. Here you will find, among other things, the giant palm Coco de Mer with the largest coconut in the world.

Somalia

Somalia is a country where many wars have raged. Most of the country is flat and dry. But the country also has mountain ranges, such as the Karkaar Mountains. There are also several national parks and the country has a long coastline with sandy beaches. Especially in the south and along the rivers you come across wild animals such as rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs and buffaloes.

Tanzania

Tourists mainly go to the east coast of Tanzania. There you will find the azure blue sea, the beautiful beaches and islands such as Zanzibar. Beautiful national parks such as Serengeti, Trangire and Selous are located in the north of Tanzania. But also in other parts of Tanzania are beautiful landscapes and wild animals. You can also make safaris or long walks in Tanzania. If you want to relax after the exertion, that’s fine in the luxury holiday resorts.

Central-African Republic

The majority of the population of the Central African Republic lives in poverty. And also one of the most dangerous countries in the world. But you will also find one of the largest contiguous rainforests in the world. Here you will find elephants, gorillas. red buffalo and snakes against. Furthermore, the Giant Elk lives here. Chad

Angola

Angola has a rich flora and fauna. There are several national parks in which the famous African wild animals can be seen. At the border you have nice views of the Epupa waterfalls and the Kuene river. This is the natural border with Namibia. The capital of Angola is Luanda. Because there is a lot of war you can go on a landmine in the whole country. So caution is advised. But there are beautiful national parks and remnants of Portuguese ruins. You see these mainly in the capital. For safety reasons, I do not recommend that you add Angola to your travel plan to Africa.

Botswana

Botswana is an ideal country to go on safari. In the north you will find the swamp area the Okavango Delta. And in the south you have the Kalahari desert. Because it also rains here in the desert, you come across many different types of wild animals. In Botswana you can not only drive through the safari parks, but also walk. Furthermore you will find the beautiful Victoria Falls. Chobe National Park is the most famous wildlife park in Botswana. Here you will find the largest elephant population in the world.

Comoros

The Comoros consist of three islands and a few smaller islands in the Indian Ocean. The islands were created by volcanic eruptions. Capital of Comoros is Moroni. Other larger cities are Mutsamudu, Domoni and Fomboni. You caught various tropical rainforests, volcanoes and grasslands here. The Karthala crater has a diameter of three by four kilometers and is the largest active crater in the world. There is also a lot of mountains. You can dive nicely around the islands. You will find coral reefs, nicely colored fish, dolphins and sharks.

Lesotho

Lesotho is about the same size as Belgium. And has a rugged mountainous area. This area can be traversed on the back of a pony or with a 4×4. The capital of Lesotho is Maseru. You would not say it from an African country. But it can be very cold. That is because the land is about a thousand meters above sea level. In the lower parts the temperature can drop to -7 degrees and in the mountains even down to -18 degrees. So take your winter clothes with you. From May to September it can snow a lot in Lesotho.

Madagascar

Madagascar is a French-speaking island. There are still authentic villages here. Where indigenous tribes still live. For example the Betsilo strain. This tribe lives in the neighborhood of Fianarantsoa. But tourists mainly come to Madagascar because of nature. You will find beautiful landscapes with a large biodiversity. The beautiful views are also missing. Furthermore, the active tourist can also come into his own. For example, you can climb in the Andringitra Mountains and raft on the rivers. In summary, a must for traveling to Africa because of the above.

Malawi

Malawi has the nickname Heart of Africa. This name has been given to Malawi because the country contains everything that an African country can contain. For example, untouched nature with dense forests, beautiful mountains and beautiful valleys. But also Lake Malawi is exceptionally beautiful because of the many colorful fish that swim there. And of course the wild animals. These are mainly found in the Nyika National Park and the Liwonde National Park. Malawi is definitely worth it if you want to travel to Africa.

Mozambique

The coast of Mozambique is almost three thousand kilometers long. And mainly consists of mangrove forests. But there are also white sandy beaches and clear blue water. You can dive nicely here. If you go diving you can encounter whale sharks and manta rays. The sea of ​​Mozambique is also ideal for sailing and surfing. Mozambique also has a good number of national parks. Here you will find lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles. If you want to relax you can best go to the islands off the coast of Mozambique.

Namibia

Namibia is one of the least populated countries in the world. You will find a lot of untouched nature. From endless dune plains to dense jungle and wild animals in the Etosha nature park. In the west is the Namib Desert. This desert is more than two thousand kilometers long. And is therefore one of the oldest and most dry desert in the world. In this desert lies the Sosuss Valley with its more than three hundred meters high dunes. The Namib Naukluft National Park is located near this valley. Here you will find rugged peaks and deep gorges of the Naukluft Mountains. So Namibia is a beautiful country as part of your travels to Africa.

Swaziland

Swaziland has many nature reserves where you can admire the now known wild African animals. Furthermore, there are beautiful rock formations, beautiful waterfalls and marshes. You can raft well on the Usutu river. It seems to be one of the best rafting spots in southern Africa. You can also find the black rhinos in Swaziland. They are mainly found in the Mkhaya nature park. According to say you better go to the smaller parks in Swaziland, then to the famous Kruger Park in South Africa. Simply because you are much more likely to see the Big Five. Beautiful parks in Swaziland are Hlane National Park and Mkhaya Game Reserve.

Zambia

Zambia is one of the most beautiful countries on the African continent. That is why Zambia should not be missing when traveling to Africa. You will find rugged wilderness, beautiful nature parks and of course giant waterfalls. In the north there are large high plains with hills and mountains. And in the south you will find the Victoria Falls. You should really visit these if you go to Zambia. You can also make a nice canoe trip on the largest artificial lake in Africa. This lake is called Lake Kariba. Especially the national parks Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa National Park are worth a visit. The capital city of Zambia is Lusaka.

Zimbabwe

Also in Zimbabwe you will find the Victoria Falls on the border with Zambia. The falls are named after the then Queen of the United Kingdom, Victoria. The capital of Zimbabwe is Harare. In this city you will find, among other things, the lions and cheetah park and the Lavron bird gardens. Furthermore you will find the Khami ruins in the town of Bulawayo. And in the Matobo Hills you can admire old rock paintings. But many tourists come to Zimbabwe to go on safari. This is possible for example in the Gonarezhou National Park, Matobo National Park and Hwange National Park.

South Africa

South Africa is one of the most popular destinations in Africa. And should therefore really be a destination for your trips to Africa. Many tourists go to South Africa to visit the Kruger Park. Our winter is the best time to travel to South Africa. It is then in South Africa summer. South Africa is known from Table Mountain among other things. Furthermore, tourists often visit the national parks. But Cape Town is also interesting for tourists because of the historic buildings. Or you are going to drive the garden route. This is a route along the south coast full of beautiful nature. And finally you can visit Robben Island.

Algeria

In Algeria you will find the Sahara, oases and the Atlas Mountains. This country consists of at least eighty percent of desert. Algeria also has a long coastline with seaside resorts such as Tipasa and Oran. If you want to travel to Africa because of the wild animals, then you do not have to go to Algeria. Here you mainly find dromedaries. And many people do not know that you can also do winter sports in Algeria.

Egypt

Egypt knows everyone, of course, because of the pyramids. If you like pharaohs, pyramids, desert, the Nile and beautiful diving locations. Then Egypt can not be absent when traveling to Africa. You can mainly dive and sunbathe on the coast. Well-known seaside resorts along the Red Sea include Hurghada, El Gouna, Dahab, Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa ‘Alam. But of course you also go to Egypt because of the archaeological treasures. Those treasures can be admired in numerous museums.

Libya

Libya is also called the pearl of the Mediterranean. But is not yet known among the tourists. In Libya there are still many ancient Roman and Greek buildings. But you can also admire very old wall drawings. Libya further consists mainly of desert. And on the coast you will find beautiful sandy beaches where it is fairly quiet.

Morocco

Morocco is growing as a tourist destination. You can definitely go for the sun. The sun shines about 300 days a year. And there are many beach resorts where you can enjoy the sun. There is also a lot of culture in the cities and a lot of beautiful nature. Along the coast you will find beautiful white beaches where you can dive well. The inland is attractive for hikers and climbers. Here are mountains where you can easily walk and climb. But most of Morocco consists of desert. There is hardly any life here. Strangely enough you can go to Morocco in winter to ski or snowboard.

Sudan

Tourists know Sudan mainly because of diving. At least, if tourists know Sudan. On the Red Sea you can dive beautifully. You can dive to shipwrecks. But you will also find beautiful coral reefs and many different types of sharks. Furthermore, Sudan mainly consists of desert. Here you will find pyramids, temples and ancient ruins. The capital of Sudan is Khartoum.

Tunisia

Tunisia is primarily a beach destination. Inland there is mainly desert. But also a large saltwater lake called Chott El Jerid. The small towns are also nice to visit because of the culture. And of course you can make a dromedary trip there.

Southern Sudan

South Sudan is a very young country. It has separated from Sudan. The country has decided to work on tourism. The capital of South Sudan is Juba. There are good facilities in this city, such as hotels, restaurants and bars. South Sudan has several national parks that are worth seeing. You will find these mainly in the south of the country. The bridge over the Nile is also a sight. If you like mountains, then a visit to Jebel Kujur Berg is recommended. Another attraction is the John Garang Mausoleum.
